China is expanding its visa-free transit policy, allowing Americans and other eligible foreign travelers to stay for up to 10 days. The new policy, effective immediately, was announced by China’s National Immigration Agency on WeChat. Passport holders from 54 countries, including the U.S., Canada, and various countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia, are eligible.

Previously, travelers could stay visa-free for 72 to 144 hours, depending on their destination. Now, with a confirmed exit ticket, travelers can enter 60 locations across 24 provinces, including Beijing and Shanghai, and travel between regions within the 10-day period.
China is easing its visa policies to attract more international visitors after three years of pandemic isolation.
